Dance For The Climate hace la vuelta del mundo. Next stop: Copenhagen
Following the successful launch of the 'Dance For The Climate' clip and 15 000-strong demonstration in Brussels on December 5th, Nic Balthazar is going to Copenhagen to present his "Dance For The Climate" in collaboration with the Climate Coalition. Since its lounge one month ago the clip has generated international interest from many organizations and media, in Europe and beyond. The clip was translated into 20 languages, and was on television in Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Denmark, Romania, Croatia, Cyprus, Slovenia, ...
The clip was distributed through the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) but in addition Jill Peeters (VTM) and weatherman Jean Charles Beaubois (RTBF) their network of weather broadcasters proved to be very useful. Other than that, the movie was also massively transmitted through the Internet, via email, Facebook and Twitter.
Present in Copenhagen
In Copenhagen, the clip can also be found. Director Nic Balthazar was invited onto the Climate Express from Brussels to Copenhagen on the 5th of December. He presented his clip on the train to the attendant world press and handed over a message to the European Climate Policy Coordinators. On the first day of the Climate Summit ‘Dance For The Climate’ featured at the UN-concert 'Dance 4 Climate Change’ in the Danish National Parkenstadium featuring performances by Akon, Shaggy, Europe and Youssou N'dour. The clip is also included in the TV-production of the concert, which has already been picked up to broadcast by more than 40 television networks worldwide. Thursday 17th Balthazar presented both The Big Ask clip (from 2008, watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kRP5x2MsAw&feature=related) as the Dance For The Climate clip at the Bella centre in the European pavilion. Jill Peeters simultaneously showed the clips during a debate at the alternative Climate Summit in Copenhagen Klimaforum 09.
Through the network of the Belgian Climate Coalition global environmental organizations like Greenpeace, Oxfam, Friends of the Earth and Tck Tck Tck have taken the clip. In the United States The Climate Project of Al Gore responded enthusiastic and spread it through their network. Thanks to the work of volunteers every senator and governor in the U.S. received the clip in his or her mailbox, the same goes for Barack Obama: to his ‘work address’ The White House.
World Expo 2010 in Shanghai
In 2010, the clip will feature at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai in the Meteo World pavilion, which is a weather and climate pavilion. A 100.000 visitors are expected daily and that six months long. In Canada, weather broadcasters and organizations committed to organizing their own Dance For The Climate-event. In South Africa and New Zealand exist similar plans.
Thousands joining the dance
On the Dance For The Climate website the uploaded dance videos are only getting better. The counter is now at more than 19.000! But every day there are hundreds new ones. At the same time many educational programs and institutions such as Technopolis and the International Polar Foundation of Alain Hubert included the clip in their workshops.
The global dancing petition grows stronger every day and thus continues the Dance For The Climate clip its world tour. That means we keep dancing as well. If we must, until a fair climate agreement is read out loud DANCING in Copenhagen at the end. U2 may provide the background music for that event.
